Time Flies.... May Hutdate

We can't believe we are halfway through 2021 already. The Shepherd's Hut Kitchen is busy and beginning to see more new faces now that visitors can come to the county.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all our local customers for their support throughout lockdown and over a difficult period for everyone.

Spring is our favourite time of year and The Shepherd's Hut Kitchen garden is full of fresh growth. We have been busy planting and sowing so we can use as much of our own ingredients in our produce as possible. Like last year we are happy to barter freshly baked scones with those of you who have excess harvest from your vegetable plots. This is a fantastic way of keeping produce local and avoiding wastage.

Our Saturday Night's Shepherd's Hut Delights are ever popular and we have started making additional meals when we can for our customers who would like to enjoy them at their convenience.

Our frozen meal portions are very generous for one or would feed two people with smaller appetites. Drop in or contact us to see what's available.

Lastly, our website gallery is finally up and running showcasing some of the takeaway food we cook and also the produce we sell from the Hutlet.  We also post on Facebook and Instagram if you'd like to follow us there.

Hope to see you soon, Claire and Tegs.

Fresh Scones

Scones are back on, freshly baked every day. Sold singly or with Kea Plum Jam and Cornish Clotted Cream. Jam first!

2020 is nearly over...

We would like to wish all of our customers a safe and Merry Christmas. Thank you very much for your support and we look forward to seeing you in 2021.

December 'Hutdate'

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!!

As usual we've been busy at the Shepherd's Hut Kitchen. Lots of new small batches out for the festive season.

Unusual produce such as Quinces and Medlars have been turned into jellies and chutneys and even Membrillo! Perfect for your Christmas cheeseboard.

Our Christmas local gift packs are going down a storm, with the fruits picked within walking distance of the hut. Give something very local this Christmas... hand harvested, handmade and hand packed in Kea.

Saturday Night's Shepherd's Hut Delight's continue, the last takeaway is 19th December. We are taking some time off to recharge over the Christmas period and will be back for orders again on 23rd January.

The gazebo we built has been worth it's weight in gold protecting us from the elements. Pictured here on one of the few sunny days we've enjoyed lately!

November 'Hutdate'

We are well into the swing of our Saturday Night's Shepherd's Hut Delights and have received some fantastic feedback from our lovely flock of customers.

We've sent out Coq au Vin, Pork in Cornish Cider and Mustard, Vegetable Stroganoff and a Mushroom Bourguignon to name but a few. Desserts have gone down extremely well including Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Tarts and Vanilla Cheesecake.

We strive to keep our menu varied and interesting and cater for all dietary requirements as best we can.  Head over to the menu's page to see what's in store for December.

Lemon posset with a raspberry coulis. Refreshing and heavenly dessert after our spicy chicken chorizo and butterbean stew.

October 'Hut date'

It's been a busy few months for us at The Shepherd's Hut Kitchen. Our range of small batch chutneys, pickles and jams has expanded and we've been busy building stock so its ready in time for the Festive season.

We've stopped baking Scones now summers gone but have a wider and varying range of delicious fresh baked cakes. Each weekend we have a different hearty and warming soup on offer and have developed a bit of a reputation with our incredibly moreish sausage rolls.

The end of this month hails the start of our Saturday Night Shepherd's Hut Delight's. A takeaway service with a changing weekly menu. If you don't already know about this you can find details on our Menu's page.

And if that wasn't enough... to stop you getting quite so wet when you visit us we have built a gazebo so we can open comfortably in all weathers. Yay.

We wanted a place where you could come to visit us and be able to buy the products we make so we got building again.

Our little Shepherd's Hutlet is the perfect size to show off our range of jams, chutneys, pickles and syrups.

We sell our freshly baked Brownies and Scones from here too, as well as greetings cards and locally made hand sewn items. Perfect for gifts or to treat yourself!

Come and visit us between 10.30am and 4 pm Friday to Sunday.

The Shepherd's Hut Kitchen is born

The Shepherd's Hut arrived on a truck from Norfolk as a bare shell back in July 2019. Once positioned the task ahead of us was very exciting and a bit overwhelming.

Taking one step at a time we started by attaching studwork to the roof and sides, once the electrics, drainage and utility pipes were secured we installed insulation and then clad the sides and roof with corrugated coated steel to make it weatherproof. If you have any experience with corrugated sheeting you will know this is not an easy or very enjoyable material to work with!

The weekend after, we put the roof on the hut, it had its first weather test with gale force winds and torrential rain. We were very relieved and proud to see it intact after the storm.

The inside was attacked next and the walls clad with acrylic, the floor laid and then the boiler, sinks and other utilities installed. Lastly our worksurfaces and shelving were fixed in place and the final painting jobs completed.

And there it was a beautiful bespoke professional kitchen ready for action.
